side quests on iOS is live!

side quests is live on the App Store. Here is what is included on day one, what Pro adds, and how to start your first weekly cycle.

side quests is now live on the App Store. The app is free to download, the first weekly cycle is ready the moment you open it, and everything described on this site for the past few months is finally something you can use instead of read about.

Here is the practical version: what is in the app on day one, what changes if you subscribe to Pro, and what to do if you are on Android.

side quests on iOS: what you get on day one

The weekly cycle works the way this blog has described it all along, now as a real app:

  • A weekly cycle. Every seven days you get seven new quests, timed to when you started.
  • Quests picked around your interests. The set is chosen for your taste rather than pulled from a generic list.
  • Swaps. If a quest does not fit the week you are having, swap it for another.
  • XP, levels, and streaks. Every completed quest earns XP and keeps your streak going cycle after cycle.
  • The bonus quest. Clear every regular quest in a cycle and a bonus quest unlocks.
  • A private journal. Each completed quest becomes an entry where you can add a note or a photo.

Nothing carries over as a debt. If a week goes badly, the next cycle starts clean with seven new quests, which is the part that keeps side quests from turning into another abandoned to-do list.

What side quests Pro adds

The core experience stays free: weekly quests, XP, streaks, the bonus quest, and your journal. Pro is for people who want more room, and it adds three things:

  • A higher weekly swap limit, so a busy week does not cost you a quest you wanted.
  • Extra journal photos, for the weeks worth remembering in more than one frame.
  • A higher-resolution share card, so whatever you finished looks sharp when you post it.

Pro is available as an in-app purchase. Current pricing is shown on the side quests App Store listing.

Do you need an iPhone or iPad?

Either works. side quests runs on iPhone and iPad and requires iOS 16.4 or iPadOS 16.4 and later. The app is listed at 85.1 MB, rated 13+, and the interface is in English for now.

That covers most devices from the last several years, so if your phone still gets updates, you are very likely fine.

What about Android?

Android is still in development, and there is no release date to share yet. This blog is where it will be announced, along with any change to the iOS version, so it is worth checking back or following along.

If you are on Android, the ideas on this blog work without the app. You can run a version of the weekly rhythm yourself:

  1. Pick seven small things you have been meaning to try.
  2. Spread them across the week instead of stacking them on one day.
  3. Note down what you did, even in a single line.
  4. When the week ends, start again with seven fresh ones.

That is the loop the app automates, and it works on paper too.

How to get started in the app

  1. Download side quests from the App Store and open it.
  2. Answer the short setup so your first set of quests reflects your interests.
  3. Pick a quest that takes under twenty minutes and do it today rather than saving it.
  4. Log it in the journal, then leave the rest of the cycle alone until you come back to them.

There is no streak to protect yet on day one, and no reason to try to clear all seven quests at once. The cycle is a week long on purpose.

For a head start on ideas, the blog has plenty of low-cost ones, including things to do with friends and a list of solo activities that beat doomscrolling.

side quests is live, and it is still early

The app that shipped today is the start of the loop, not the end of it. Swaps, the bonus quest, the journal, and streaks are all in place, and feedback is genuinely useful right now, especially on which quests land and which ones miss.

If something is confusing, broken, or simply not your kind of fun, there is a support page and a contact address, and both reach a real person.

Download side quests on the App Store and see what this week has for you.
